The World tarot card

The World

Symbols in the artwork

A figure moves within an oval frame decorated with red ribbons and leaves. At the four corners, faces of a person, an eagle, a bull, and a lion are visible among clouds. The scene, where different forms surround a single border, reminds us that the self is formed by the accumulation of various experiences. The circular garland of leaves signifies the completion of a process, while the moving figure within suggests a life that continues beyond. Rather than promising perfect success, this card helps acknowledge what has been accomplished and guides a graceful conclusion.

Sources and interpretation

The original deals with success/reward/journey and the reversed deals with lethargy/fixation/stagnation. Read it focusing on modern completion/integration/fulfillment, and do not reduce it to mere recollection or organization.

Upright

Completion and Achievement · Integration of Experience · Fulfillment

Look back at what you have accomplished. It is okay to fully acknowledge what is finished and take a moment to rest.

Core meaning

The World symbolizes achievement and fulfillment from completing a journey, and the integration of diverse experiences into one whole. This is a broader meaning than simply looking back at what has ended, and it does not guarantee that everything will be perfect.

Even within the leaf-bordered circle, the figure continues to move. Finishing one task can allow for a moment to catch one's breath and contemplate what comes next. It is fine to organize remaining tasks, express gratitude to those who have been with you, and take time for rest. You do not need to set your next goal immediately. It is also fine to slowly reflect on what this experience has left for you.

What to keep in mind

It is not necessary for every part to be perfect to conclude. Check if you have sufficiently completed what you initially intended. It is okay to leave the parts you wish to improve for the next plan.

One small step today

Write down what you accomplished and what you learned from one finished task, and organize any remaining details. Try to conclude by archiving materials or marking them on a list.

A question to consider

What has changed through this work, and what experience would you like to try next?

A thought for today

Acknowledge the time that has brought you to this point, and it is okay to pause before the next step.

Reversed

Incompletion and Stagnation · Unfinished Heart · Insufficient Fulfillment

If it feels like something is not yet finished, distinguish between what remains and what you wish to improve.

Core meaning

The World reversed symbolizes an incomplete process, stagnation, or a lack of fulfillment or closure, even if something is finished. Beyond the advice to check remaining tasks, the feeling of incompleteness itself carries significant meaning.

You might have been so focused on finishing quickly that you didn't have time to reflect on your past experiences. Just because a task is finished does not mean your heart is immediately settled. After handling necessary closures, write down one by one the methods you wish to continue and the methods you wish to change. This card does not mean failure. Use this as an opportunity to consider what you need to take care of now to conclude peacefully.

What to keep in mind

Even if there are regrettable points, what you have accomplished so far does not disappear. Take care of the remaining tasks, but separate what you wish to improve from what absolutely must be finished. You do not need to make everything perfect all at once.

One small step today

From one unfinished task, write down no more than three things that must be completed this time. Move what you wish to improve to a separate list for later.

A question to consider

What must be done to end this work? What is okay to leave for later?

A thought for today

While organizing the remaining parts, you can also acknowledge the time that has already passed.

Tarot offers a way to reflect on yourself through its symbols. Read it as a point of reference, not a certain prediction of the future or another person's feelings.
